Boy's Brigade - Chaplain Info

A word from our chaplain

What is a Chaplain?

Chaplains play an important role in the life of a Boys’ Brigade company, supporting the leaders, helping them to share the gospel, and praying for both the leaders and young people. The chaplain will be appointed by the church, but not every chaplain will be the Minister. Some will be a childrens/youth worker or member of the church leadership team and every chaplain will approach the role in a different way.

The Role of a Chaplain

“He just loves going to Boys’ Brigade…” are words I heard recently. The conversation I had with the parent was a real testimony to the work that goes on in many companies in our region and beyond. It brought home to me the vital nature of Boys’ Brigade amongst boys and young men.

In that well known passage at the end of Matthew’s gospel Jesus brings a commission for his followers:

And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

These words must encourage us to action. To present the gospel of saving faith in Jesus Christ alone, so that all who hear will put their trust in Him as their Saviour and Lord.

The Boys’ Brigade facilitates such spiritual work as its aim is to guide the boys under its care ‘towards true Christian manliness.’ So, I believe it is a privilege to be involved in such work and to encourage congregations to be involved in the work of Boys’ Brigade and for Christians to lead in this organisation. This must be the main reason for any BB company’s existence in our congregations.

It has been the testimony of many in our world today of the impact of Boys’ Brigade upon their lives. Let us continue encouraging the next generation in our endeavour to put into practice what Jesus has asked us to do. “Any church not involved in the Great Commission has forfeited its biblical right to exist.” Oswald J. Smith” May God bless you in this work.
