Our Leaders

Running a BB Company

BBNI companies operate in churches across Northern Ireland and Donegal.

Each week our volunteer leaders provide a balanced programme of activities for children and young people aged 4 -18.

There are over 2,000 volunteer leaders in BBNI who run local Boys’ Brigade companies, welcoming children and young people from their local community. We recognise the value that our volunteers make in leading BB companies and the impact that they make on the lives of children and young people.

Leaders are appointed by the local church and must be registered with The Northern Ireland Boys’ Brigade (BBNI). BBNI works with the church to ensure safeguarding procedures are followed.

We equip, inspire and encourage leaders by:

  • Designing and delivering BB leader training, equipping leaders with knowledge and skills to run a great BB company
  • Running events to inspire and create opportunities for BB leaders to network and share ideas
  • Providing advice and guidance on policies and procedures to keep children and young people safe and ensure the local group meets legislative requirements.
  • Providing resources and running competitions
  • Offering opportunities for leaders to get involved in panels which work with the staff team to develop initiatives

Our Boys’ Brigade companies are split into sections and leaders can work across any section.

The sections are:

  • Anchors: P1 – P4
  • Juniors: P5 – P7
  • Company: Year 8 – Year 10
  • Seniors: Year 11 – Year 14

Why I am a Leader

I love being a leader because it is really enjoyable seeing the boys weekly, all the fun and games we play and the cookery. It seems to be the fastest hour in the week. We get to play a part in their lives hopefully guiding them to become Christians

I love being a leader because it is such a fun way to share God’s love with the boys and watch them mature and grow in faith in a safe enjoyable environment
