Time with God – David Johnston

"Be still and know that I am God" Psalm 46 vs 10

This verse highlights to me the importance of quiet reflection and recognising God's authority and power, even in the midst of turmoil.

I am reminded that when the Bible refers to ‘being still’, it isn't just about being physically still.  It often refers to a state of inner quietness, trust and surrender to God’s will.

Stopping, striving, fighting and letting go of trying to control everything and to trust in God's timing. Waiting patiently, recognising that God's plan is often unfolding at His pace.

  • Recognising God's presence: paying attention to His voice and guidance in the stillness.
  • Finding rest: experience peace and comfort in God's presence.
  • Trusting in God's power: Knowing that God is in control and will work things out for the good of those who love Him.

Angus Buchan, a South African farmer in his book' Faith like Potatoes', is a living testimony to God's faithfulness and God keeping His promises.  Having potatoes grow during drought, God sending rain to extinguish a wild fire and much more.

In the Bible we read how:

  • Samuel was called in the temple under Eli (1Samuel 3 v 8)
  • Jesus calmed the storm, 'Peace be still' (Matthew 4 v 35)
  • David was chosen as a young person to lead (1 Samuel 16 v 12)
  • Isaiah heard the call and replied with ‘Lord send me’ (Isaiah 6 v 5)

In the Boys’ Brigade, boys and young men hear and experience ‘All that promotes a true Christian manliness’, especially coming to faith.

The love that I bring with me comes from His indwelling, and shines as a testimony to His Grace. It takes each of us to make a difference in our BB company, church, community and relationships.

I am reminded that those who have made a difference as mentioned, have as their spiritual foundation a trust in Jesus for salvation, with prayer, reading the scriptures, surrender and obedience. Not to mention trust and obey through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

'Be still and know that I am God' keeps me focused.

My daily life encounters bring me face to face with the joys and problems that require answers - answers that will have consequences. In every situation, I will ‘be still and know that He is God’.

I, with BB leaders and boys will make a difference just where we are now and in days to come.
