Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain,
Will your anchor drift, or firm remain?
We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Steadfast and sure while the billows roll;
Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love!
I have taken up a new hobby – painting by numbers. Last Saturday I was sitting peacefully painting when ‘the storm’ arrived!!
My husband had just had a shower when the connection to the pump broke and water was pouring out everywhere. Water was coming from the hot-press, through the kitchen ceiling, kitchen light, living room wall. The electric in the house blew, it was a mad panic to get every towel in the house, to soak up the water on the kitchen floor!
It that moment of madness, we stopped and prayed. Prayed that we would be able to get our plumber and that there would not be too much damage.
God answered prayer – the plumber was there in 15 minutes and there was not a lot of damage.
This was a reminder that the same God who performed miracles in Bible times, is the same God today. A God who hears us when we call out in our time of need.
We teach children Bible stories like David and Goliath, Daniel in the Lion’s den or The Feeding of the 5000. We sing songs with them, like ‘Our God is a great big God’….but do we really believe it? Do we believe that the God who gave David the strength to fight Goliath, who protected Daniel in the lion’s den, who fed the 5000, is the same God today? He is the same God who still performs miracles . The same God who protects us and gives us the strength we need.
We all have ‘storms’ in life. They come in different ways and at different times. In these times, cling to the Anchor who is sure and steadfast.
Our God, who is the same God!!
