Do you ever feel if you forget you have left your phone somewhere, or you have to put it away for an extended amount of time, it almost feels like you’ve lost your hand, or perhaps it might make you feel like you are a little bit lost without it.
Phones have become such an integral part of our lives and these days you can use your phone to do just about anything. One important thing about phones that we are always aware of is our phone battery life. Right now my phone is sitting comfortably at 89%, how about yours? How often do you think about charging your phone? Do you carry your charger about with you?
Without a source to be recharged it will eventually die, and become unusable.
Have you took the time to think about yourself and your spiritual battery? Have you ever ran out of “charge” because you haven’t been connecting to God and His Word?
In Luke 10:38-42 Jesus uses the real life example of his friends Mary and Martha as a good life lesson for us to use:
"Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord’s feet, listening to His word. But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me.” But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”
Martha, like a hurricane, was flying around trying to get everything done. Her temper got worse, she felt drained from working by herself and she forgot about who was there with her in that moment. Whereas Mary took the time to slow down, sit with Jesus and listen to what he had to say. Jesus even said that she shouldn’t be worried and that Mary did the right thing.
We can sometimes be a little bit like Martha, running around and letting ourselves become drained, just like the batteries on our phone. When we don’t take time alone with God to be spiritually recharged, we will run our own power and it will drain quickly.
But how do we “charge our spiritual battery”? There are some pretty simple things that we can do to achieve this:
Read some of your Bible every day, even if it is just a verse.
Spend some time alone in prayer with God.
Take a walk and bring God along.
Sit in silence.
By taking time to plug in with God and allowing him to full us with His Holy Spirit, we will no longer running on our power, but on God’s.
I want you to consider this: without food, we lose strength and stamina, then we feel drained. We must take time to nourish our spirit too as well as our physical bodies. The way to do that is spending it with Jesus just as Mary did. He is the source of our strength.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28.
