"Remember the Lord" – Nehemiah 4:14
"After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, ‘Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.’" – Nehemiah 4:14
Life is full of challenges. Whether it’s school pressures, work demands, or the countless responsibilities that fill our days, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Sometimes, even in outreach and especially in BB. We can find ourselves running on empty, trying to create the perfect programme, plan every detail, and make sure everything goes smoothly. But Nehemiah’s words remind us that our strength doesn’t come from us, it comes from God.
In Nehemiah’s time, God’s people were rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem while facing fierce opposition. They could have given in to fear, exhaustion, or discouragement. Instead, Nehemiah pointed them back to the source of their strength: "Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome."
The work of BB is also a battle, one worth fighting.
We’re not just organising activities or running another club. We are advancing Christ’s Kingdom among boys. That’s no small task! In a world full of distractions and pressures, we want the boys in our Company to know Jesus, to see His love through us, and to be transformed by His Word. But we can’t do it alone.
Like Nehemiah’s builders, we must work with a tool in one hand and faith in the other—giving our best effort, but always relying on God to bring the real transformation. We may plant seeds through bible class, games, crafts, competitions and conversations. We may water through encouragement, mentoring, and example. But ultimately, it is God who changes hearts.
So, as we serve in BB, let’s not grow weary. Let’s not be discouraged by slow progress or challenges. Instead, let’s remember the Lord, trust in His strength, and keep fighting for our boys/young men, praying that He will build something lasting in their lives, just as He did in Jerusalem.
